Ascocenda Arthorn Red
Ascocendae have a spectacular range of colours. They are upright in habit with evergreen foliage. Ascocenda group are epiphytic taking their food requirements from the atmosphere. Roots help for anchorage as well.
The picture on the right shows the orchids growing in baskets which allow them to extend their roots, and to a certain extent provide their ideal growing conditions
Ascocendae prefers hot and humid conditions. However they require shade in the hottest period of the summer. Good sunshine and frequent watering will help the flowering. Liquid feeds applied to the roots and the folliage will promote growth.
The basal offsets can be removed and replanted in a new basket which allows the roots to grow out as shown in the picture on the right. |
